NicheWise Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This policy explains what information NicheWise collects, why we need it, who helps us handle it, and what you can do about it. It covers the NicheWise web app (app.nichewise.io), our website (nichewise.io) and NicheWise Companion, our Chrome extension.
We wrote it in plain words. If anything is unclear, email us at support@nichewise.io.
Who we are
NicheWise is a product of The 360 Company (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa, at 83 Mowbray Road, Greenside, Johannesburg, South Africa. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean The 360 Company (Pty) Ltd, trading as NicheWise. "You" means anyone who uses NicheWise.
For privacy laws like the GDPR, we are the "controller" of your personal information. That means we decide how it is used.
The short version
- You sign in with Google, or with a one-time code we email you. With Google, we get your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- We store the research you choose to save, so it is there when you come back.
- We do not sell your information. We do not use it for ads.
- We do not read your Amazon account, your cart, your orders or your general browsing.
- For Owl's automated analysis, we send book and niche data (not your name or email) to an AI provider.
- You can export your workspace any time, and you can ask us to delete your account.
What we collect
1. Account details
When you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We also get a unique account ID. We never see your Google password.
If you sign in with a one-time email code instead, we keep your email address and a unique account ID. The code works once and expires after a short time.
2. Your saved research
NicheWise stores the things you choose to save so you can use them on any device. This includes:
- niches, books, saved searches, keyword ideas and categories in your library
- books and keywords you track, and their tracking history (figures like rank and price)
- comparisons and snapshots
- Owl reports you request
- short listing details for saved books (text and links to cover images, not whole Amazon pages)
3. Plan, billing and credits
We keep a record of your plan (Free or Pro), your billing status, your credit balances and how credits were used. When you buy Pro, Paddle.com handles the checkout and your payment details. Paddle is our online reseller and the Merchant of Record for all our orders. We never see or store your full card number. We keep the order ID and the plan you picked.
4. Support messages
If you write to us through the in-app support chat or by email, we keep your name, email address, the page you were on and what you wrote. This helps us answer you and keep track of the conversation.
5. Notifications
We keep your notification choices (in-app, browser, web push, email, daily or weekly digest) and your time zone. If you turn on browser push notifications, we store the push address your browser gives us and a short description of your browser (its "user agent").
6. Partner referrals
If you came to NicheWise through a partner's link, we set a cookie for up to 60 days. If you then sign up, we record which partner and link sent you, the campaign, and when you clicked. We use this to give you any partner discount and to pay the partner fairly. We count clicks per link per day. We ignore clicks from bots.
7. Usage statistics
Our servers send a small set of usage events to PostHog, an analytics service. Before sending, we replace your account ID with a scrambled code (a one-way hash). These events never include your name, email, keywords, book IDs or titles. They only hold things like your plan, which feature you used, whether you used it in the web app or the extension, whether it worked, how long it took and an error code.
After you sign in, the web app also uses PostHog to count which pages are opened. It uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, and book, list and report IDs are removed from page addresses before they are sent. To improve NicheWise, some web app visits may be recorded. In a recording, all text you see and everything you type is hidden, and we never record the sign-in, account, payment or welcome pages.
The extension itself contains no analytics. There are no advertising trackers in the web app or the extension.
Our website (nichewise.io) counts visits with PostHog. It uses no cookies and stores nothing in your browser (the one exception is a switch our own team uses to leave our visits out of the counts). It records which pages are viewed, which links and buttons are clicked, the site that sent you, your screen width, whether you are on a desktop, phone or tablet, the name of your browser and system, and your country. PostHog works out the country from your internet address and does not keep the address. Nothing you type on the website is recorded.
8. Information in NicheWise Companion
See "The NicheWise Chrome extension" below.
What we do not collect
- We do not read your Amazon sign-in, account, cart, checkout or order pages. The extension is switched off on those pages.
- We do not collect your general browsing history.
- We do not collect your card details.
- We do not buy information about you from other companies.
Cookies and browser storage
We keep cookies and browser storage to a minimum.
- Sign-in. Google sign-in (Firebase) stores a sign-in token in your browser so you stay signed in.
- Partner cookie. A cookie named "__session" remembers a partner referral for up to 60 days.
- Your settings. The web app saves small preferences in your browser, like your theme, the sidebar state, your chosen niche, table columns and an unsent support message draft.
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.
Why we use your information (and our legal reasons)
Privacy laws like the GDPR ask us to name a legal reason for each use. Here they are in plain words.
| What we do | Why | Legal reason |
|---|---|---|
| Create your account and sign you in | So you can use NicheWise | To provide the service you asked for (contract) |
| Save and sync your research | So your work is there on every device | Contract |
| Run Owl reports, tracking and other features | You asked for them | Contract |
| Take payments and manage credits | So paid plans work | Contract, and legal duties for tax and accounting records |
| Answer support messages | To help you | Contract and our legitimate interest in good support |
| Send tracking emails, digests and push alerts | You turned them on | Your consent, which you can turn off in Account settings at any time |
| Usage statistics, fixing bugs, keeping the service safe, stopping abuse | To keep NicheWise working and fair | Our legitimate interests |
| Partner referrals | To apply discounts and pay partners | Contract and our legitimate interests |
| Keep records the law requires | To meet tax and legal rules | Legal obligation |
When we rely on legitimate interests, we have weighed them against your rights. You can object at any time (see "Your rights").
AI features (Owl)
Owl gives automated analysis of your research data, using an AI model from OpenAI. For each analysis, we send OpenAI research data about the book or niche you asked about. This includes the book ID or search phrase, public listing details, and figures we have worked out, like ranks and estimates.
We do not send your name, email address or account ID with these requests. We ask OpenAI not to store the requests for later use. OpenAI may still keep data for a short time for safety and abuse checks under its own terms.
We also use OpenAI to check whether short search phrases (like Amazon search suggestions) are about books. These are public phrases, not personal data.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run NicheWise. They may only use it to do work for us.
| Provider | What they do | What they get |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase, Google Cloud) | Sign-in, database, servers, hosting, push notifications | Your account details and saved data |
| Paddle.com (our online reseller and Merchant of Record) | Checkout, payments, invoices, sales tax and refunds | Your name, email, account ID, the plan you chose and your payment details (which you give to Paddle directly) |
| OpenAI | Runs Owl's automated analysis and checks search phrases | Book and niche research data only, no name or email |
| Resend | Sends our emails | Your email address and the email content |
| PostHog | Usage statistics, web app page counts and recordings, and visit counts for our website | A scrambled account code and limited usage details (including whether the web app or the extension was used); for website visits, the pages and buttons used and your country |
| Book data providers | Book data from publicly available Amazon listing information | Book IDs and page addresses only, no personal data |
| Our hosting provider | Hosts our own book research service | A scrambled account code for rate limits, never your name, email or account ID |
Partners in our partner programme do not get your name or email from us.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or to protect our rights. If NicheWise is sold or merged, your information may move to the new owner, and this policy will still apply to it.
International transfers
Our main servers are in the United States (Google Cloud, region us-central1). PostHog also runs in the United States. If you live in the UK, the EU or another region with data transfer rules, your information will be moved to the United States. When we do this, we use legal safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or our providers' certifications under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
How long we keep information
- Your account and saved research: for as long as you have an account. After you ask us to delete your account, we delete it within 90 days, apart from what we must keep by law.
- Billing records: for 7 years, because tax and accounting laws require it.
- Support conversations: 2 years.
- Usage statistics: 1 year.
- Unfinished Owl report runs: short-lived records that expire after about 30 minutes.
- Partner cookie: up to 60 days.
- Backups: deleted data can stay in backups for up to 30 days before it is overwritten.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- See your data. Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Export your data. In the web app, go to Account, then Data & privacy, then "Export workspace". You will get a JSON file of your workspace and notification settings. For anything else, email us.
- Fix your data. If you sign in with Google, your name and email come from Google, so you can change them there. Ask us to fix anything else.
- Delete your data. Email support@nichewise.io from your account email and we will delete your account and data.
- Object or limit use. Ask us to stop or limit some uses, such as usage statistics.
- Withdraw consent. Turn off emails and push notifications in Account settings at any time.
- Complain. You can complain to your local data protection authority. We would like the chance to help first, so please contact us.
To use any of these rights, email support@nichewise.io. We will answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm it is really you.
California residents: we do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context advertising, as those words are defined in California law.
NicheWise Companion (our Chrome extension)
The extension adds research figures to Amazon book pages and helps you save books and niches.
What it can access
- Amazon storefronts only. It runs on Amazon sites in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, Australia, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Ireland and Belgium. It does not run on any other website.
- Not your Amazon account. It is switched off on Amazon's cart, checkout, sign-in, registration and account pages.
- Permissions it asks for: "storage" and "unlimitedStorage" (to save your research on your computer), "alarms" (to run book and keyword checks you set up), and "identity" (to sign in with Google). It only connects to Google sign-in, our database and our servers after you choose to sign in.
What it reads on Amazon pages
Public book information that anyone can see, such as titles, authors, prices, ranks, page counts, publication dates, descriptions and search result positions. For keyword tracking you set up, it can check up to the first 100 search results in the background, without opening tabs.
What stays on your computer and what goes to the cloud
- When you are signed in, the extension may share public information from the Amazon pages you view (such as searches, book IDs, prices and ranks) to help keep NicheWise's data up to date. It never includes your name, email address or Amazon account details, and you can turn this off in Settings.
- Your sign-in token is kept in the extension's local storage.
- When you are signed in, items you save (books, niches, saved searches, keyword ideas, tracking and comparisons) are synced to your NicheWise account so they appear in the web app.
- If an Amazon page layout breaks the extension, it may send us a small error report. It holds only version numbers, the Amazon site, the page type, a short error code and counts. It never includes page addresses, searches, book titles, book IDs or page content.
- Owl reports you request are sent to our servers to be written.
- Actions that reach our servers through the extension, such as starting an Owl report or saving a book, are counted in our usage statistics (see "Usage statistics" above).
Limited Use
NicheWise's use of information received from the extension follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In plain words:
- We use this data only to provide and improve the features you see in NicheWise.
- We do not sell it.
- We do not use it, or transfer it, for advertising, including personalized ads.
- We do not use it to decide whether someone gets credit or a loan.
- People at NicheWise do not read it, except when you ask us for help, to keep the service secure or stop abuse, or when the law requires it.
- We only pass it to service providers (listed above) who need it to run NicheWise.
Children
NicheWise is not for children. You must be at least 16 years old to use it. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
How we keep your information safe
- You sign in with Google or a one-time email code, so we never handle a password.
- Our database rules let only you read your own records. Plan and credit records can only be changed by our servers.
- Service keys are kept on our servers, never in the app or the extension.
- Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS).
- Only a small number of NicheWise staff can access support conversations and admin tools.
No system is perfectly safe. If a breach affects your information, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as NicheWise changes. We will change the date at the top. If a change is important, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
